Our Story...and the story of the Valais Blackose Sheep

After seeing the sheep on the front of Scottish Farmer, we, like so many others thought we would love to have some Valais Blacknose Sheep. We already have Aberdeen Angus Cattle and Texel sheep on our farm, but these are quite different!

Valais Blacknose Sheep, or Walliser Schwarznasenschaf originate from the Valais region of Switzerland and are bred for both meat and wool.  The sheep are very well adapted for grazing in the steep rocky Alpine slopes and are said to have been mentioned as a breed as early as the 14th Century.  They are unmistakable with their black faces, ears and long spiral horns.  They also have black patches on their knees, hocks and feet.  The sheep are extremely friendly and seem to love us as much as we love them!
Valais Blacknose Sheep arrived in the UK for the first time in Spring 2014 and we are thrilled to be one of the lucky few to now own some.
